Delaware is a small state in the United States. It is the primary setting of a majority of games in the UDU, and is the setting of most UDU games created by TwentyTwoPilots. Currently, the only county in this state is Newark County which is in the Westover area, though a county called South Harriston County might exist when the UD: Delancy Gorge UD: Delancy Gorge revamp comes out.

Overview

Delaware is the setting of UD: Westover Islands UD: Westover Islands, UD: Odessa UD: Odessa, UD: Newark UD: Newark, UD: Delancydrome Speed Complex UD: Delancydrome Speed Complex, and UD: Delancy Gorge UD: Delancy Gorge, making Delaware the most completed state in the UDU.

In the UDU, Delaware is the fifth-largest state and is implied to have a very large population, in contrast to Delaware in real life, which is the second-smallest state and the sixth-least populous state (according to Wikipedia). Before October 2020, speed limits on rural interstates were 70-75 mph (was once 65 mph near Cape Henlopen State Park), with the exception of the tunnels on I-76 which were posted at 60 mph. Undivided highways had 50-60 mph limits in rural areas, with some curvier roads being posted at 45 mph. County roads were primarily 50 mph in straight areas and 40-45 mph on more curvy county roads. Divided highways were 55 mph to 60 mph in rural areas just like they are today, though the speed limit is 65 mph in the Harriston Ridge Tunnel and was also 65 mph on the Westover Causeway.

Like most other states in the UDU, Delaware's geography has been changed dramatically over time. The most noticeable change is its borders; completely different border shape aside. In the UDU, Delaware is bordered by New York, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Massachusetts (in real life it borders Maryland, Pennsylvania and New Jersey). Speed limits in the state are known to be 50-55 mph for undivided state routes in rural areas that are not very curvy or have wider curves like on DE 5 though it can be 45 mph on more curvier roads like DE 34, 55-60 mph for divided state routes in rural areas (with UD: Delancy Gorge UD: Delancy Gorge being the only exception in which a portion of a divided highway is signed as 65 mph), 65-75 mph on interstates in urban and suburban areas (could change when the UD: Delancy Gorge UD: Delancy Gorge revamp comes out), and 70-75 mph on rural interstates with the 70 mph limit primarily being in mountainous areas such as south of Westover on I-976 and I-80 in UD: Delancy Gorge UD: Delancy Gorge. Some curvy roads/highways that are more straight or have less dangerous curves can have a 50-mph limit (like in UD: Westover Islands UD: Westover Islands). However, near Cape Henlopen State Park, the speed limit is 40 mph. Some state highways that are curvier can be posted at 45 mph. On county roads and highways, the maximum speed limit is 50 mph though on more curvy county roads it can be posted at 45 mph or lower. In urban areas and suburban areas as well as small towns/communities, the speed limits are mainly 25 mph to 45 mph, though a 50-mph limit may be posted in suburban areas on occasion on highways and roads such as in the suburban area of Westover regardless of whether it is a highway or road. It could be 45 mph or 50 mph on US 40 in Odessa, but this is not signed. On residential roads, the speed limit is 25 mph with the exception of Odessa in which a few of the roads are posted at 30 mph. There is currently only one county route in the UDU but this could change when the UD: Delancy Gorge UD: Delancy Gorge and UD: Newark UD: Newark revamps come out, but it is unlikely that there will be more county routes in the state.

US Routes and Interstates

From longest to shortest:

Federal Highway/Interstate Route
US 40 Starts in east Alan Island. Passes through Westover Island, Rodanthe Island, Odessa, and downtown Newark. Presumably continues into Pennsylvania.
I-76 Starts from I-80 in Alan Island. Forms a concurrency with US 40 around Hamptonport, passes through Westover Island, and continues to the mainland, where it has interchanges with I-95 and I-476. Continues into Maryland.

Due to the ongoing revamp of UD: Newark and its surrounding areas, the current state of this expressway is unknown, although it has been suggested it will bypass Newark post-revamp.

US 1 Passes through Downtown Bordenville before currently terminating at DE 896. Functions as an unofficial service road for I-95.
I-80 Passes through the Squirrel Mountain Tunnel and forms a concurrency with I-95 in Harriston. Continues to Alan Island, New York.

Real Life

In real life, Delaware is very small and is very flat and is mostly surrounded by swaps and beaches. It has a very low population of around 970,000 people and 980,000 people as of 2024. Its biggest city is Wilmington which has around 70,000 people and its capital is Dover. It borders some highly populated states such Pennsylvania from the north, New Jersey from the east, and Maryland from the west and south.

Delaware is also part of the Northeast Megalopolis and holds one of the major stretches of I-95 where it has a lot of traffic heading towards major cities like Washington D.C., Baltimore, Philadelphia, and New York City. Other interstate highways do exist but there are only spur routes. I-495 bypasses Wilmington from the east and I-295 begins in Delaware from the south and heads to Trenton, NJ and bypasses Philadelphia from the east on the New Jersey side. In real life, the speed limit is 65 mph in rural areas, 50 mph-65 mph in urban/suburban areas, 55 mph on rural divided highways, and 50 mph on undivided rural highways.
