Overview

The Minimap is one of the foremost game features on account of helping players navigate through all the game maps in Ultimate Driving. They may view the whole UD minimap by heading to the bottom left corner of their screen and clicking the map. On it, they'll find some of the major roads, highways, cities, and state parks laid out on the map. Major locations such as UDOcos and Fire Stations are indicated with an icon. Players also can ping other players their location and as well mark a certain spot on the map, if necessary.

History

First Generation Map
On June 26, 2011, Alex (TwentyTwoPilots) began to make maps for the UD games - the map was first shown in Ultimate Driving I v1.4 (which is a legacy game created by TTP). This map looks very different from the UD map of today, as you can see in the pictures.

Second Generation Map
On the same day that Ultimate Driving I v1.4 was released, UD: Westover Islands came out and the second-generation map came with it. Also, the red square that points out your location was added. UD: Odessa used to have the same map as UD: Westover Islands.

Third Generation Map
When TwentyTwoPilots chose to revamp his current game maps, he also made an update to the minimap designs as well. Cape North State Park became Cape Henlopen State Park, I-76 replaced Route 1, and US-40 replaced Route 3. UD: Odessa was added to maps, and Routes 4 and 5 were swapped. The new Route 3 replaced Route 2 and US 17 replaced Route 6.

On May 20, 2016, Cape Henlopen could now be entered using US-40 (Coastal Highway), including the addition of an exit ramp to Cape Henlopen. South Beach was entirely remade from the ground up, Route 3 was removed, and replaced with Chestnut Road. Routes 4 and 5 were replaced by US 40 BUS. Bordenville Beach State Park was also withdrawed, and the Betts Creek Covered Bridge was added. The original Exit 1 on I-76 (Route 4 and US 40) was removed. The junction between I-95 and I-76 was updated. The gas station at Woodbury was removed from the maps, and UD: Currituck's map minimap was also included due to the game's release.

In the year of 2018, the Harriston Bay Bridge/Tunnel (HBBT) and Nomtauk were integrated into the minimap. DE 12 was also cut to end at US-40. Later in August 2018, Doe Run Road and US 40 BUS were updated due to locality of Kensington being moved southwards. In November 2018, the minimap for UD: Monroe was added due to the game map's release.

Eventually in 2020, another minimap update was given due to the new smooth terrain that was added into Westover Islands. All major locations that were marked with a letter were replaced with a mannered icon. A new location, Mount Astley was introduced into the Westover Islands game map along with Kensington Beach Dunes State Park. Small off-road trails were also put into the minimap. Then, in February 2021, a new road was annexed between Doe Run Road and US 40 BUS (now currently known as Delaware Route 8), known as Woodbury Station Road. Afterwards in June 2021, the barrier island of South Beach was given a southern expansion which prepared the new South Beach Regional Airstrip location. Lastly, in August 2021, US 40 BUS was relabeled to DE 8 with the new terrain changes to Woodbury.

Another update was given to the Minimap on August 21, 2021 where players now drive through a city, location or road will be indicated above it. This is only available to PC or Console players.

In 2022, the mini map received a major update. The Maryland state border was moved west, and as a result of this, MD 12 was renumbered to DE 12. DE 508 was also added, connecting DE 8 to the aforementioned DE 12. The US 40/DE 12 intersection was revised, and Chestnut Road was upgraded to a county route; Newark County Route 3, and was expanded south of former Woodbury, connecting with DE 508 near the South Beach Regional Airstrip. The South Beach update on December 23, 2023 changed the map changing DE 8 to go South Beach and DE 508 to expand toward Westover. It changed again on June 15, 2024 to add the updated route of DE 5 and the new DE 34 which includes the town of Piney Cove.

	Mail Delivery	Marks location for any homes with Mail to deliver or take.

Minimap Overhaul

On November 14, 2020, the minimap received a massive overhaul which included adding anonymous markers for other players on the map for your team. Police officers are able to see map markers for all players near another police officer or traffic camera. New navigation controls have been added by pinpointing and following the green beacon you have made. Phase 2 has been sort of released and included more new minimap feature such as sharing your location to friends or to taunt police. This update also changed the minimap GUI design into more of a modern tablet form so it doesn't cover the entire screen.

Chinese Minimap

When players are connected to Chinese servers in UD, they'll be given their own UD minimap instead of being given the well-ordered minimap that all international servers are connected with. This minimap features the removal of the legend table, labels of the town and state park names (though the Maryland text is still visible on the minimap), and US 40 personated as DE 8.

Trivia

• In former games, all minimaps can be found in one by scrolling up, down, left or right for a while.
• Westover and Odessa got minimap updates during the Racing Update on August 10, 2018.
• When Pleasant Valley was released, a minimap wasn't made for the game, so index15 improvised one that can be found in all cities/towns.
• In older minimaps, letters were used to indicate major locations, such as gas stations and dealerships.
• On November 14, 2020, all core games received Phase 1 of the Minimap Overhaul. A week later after the update, all games received Phase 2.
• Another minimap update was given which enhanced the minimap with road and city indications.
  • Before the v5.0.10 update, the indication would say "MD 12" instead of displaying the MD 12 shield.
• In the Hub Update, the game minimaps of Newark and Delancy Gorge were removed from the minimap on account of them receiving their own overhaul. Some land was added west of UD: Newark, and a little bit of land west of UD: Delancy Gorge to make way for UD: Delancydrome Speed Complex
